The Ararat Rank

PURPOSE 

The knowledge required to obtain the Ararat Rank will equip Homenetmen Chief Scouts to provide guidance and support to other Chief Scouts. Candidates for the Ararat Rank must be adequately prepared and experienced to assume additional responsibilities, both within the organization and in other structures of the Armenian community.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants of the Ararat Rank must:

  • Have the Vgayal Rank.

  • Have the rank of Chief Scout.

  • Have been active as a Chief Scout for at least two years.

  • Have been in charge of a chapter camping trip or a regional jamboree, or be a member of the organizing committee.

  • Possess a solid understanding of the Homenetmen and scouting Charter and Bylaws.

  1. Organizational

Study, research, and be able to present the following:

  1. The history, purpose, and structure of Homenetmen.

  2. The General Charter and Bylaw of Homenetmen, as well as other key bylaws of the organization.

  3. The duties and activities performed by  the steering committee.

  4. The relationships between the Chief Scout, the Unit Chief Scout, the Chapter Chief Scout, and the Council of Chief Scouts.

  1. National  

Gain in-depth knowledge of the following topics, select a topic of preference and prepare a research paper and presentation for the group members.

  1.  Armenian history

  1. Armenian Dynasties

  2. Culture 

  • Language and literature

  • Architecture and sculpting

  • Music, songs, and folk dances

  1. The ideology, purpose, and objectives of the Armenian revolutionary and liberation movements, including significant historical events and figures:

  • Gougounian Raid (Gougouniani Arshavank)

  • Ottoman Bank Attack (Bank Ottomani kravoum)

  • Khanasor Raid (Khanasori Arshavank)

  • The February Revolution (Pedrvaryan Absdampoutyoun)

  • Founding figures of the Armenian Revolutionary Party: Krisdapor Mikaelian, Rosdom Sdepan Zorian, and Simon Zavarian

  • The struggle for the Armenian Cause: From Soghomon Tehlirian to the Lisbon-Five and the freedom-fighters of the Artsakh Liberation War.

  1. Armenia, the Armenian Diaspora, the Armenian Cause, contemporary Armenian history.

  1. Scouting

  1. Be capable of planning, organizing, and implementing a scouting activity, including preparing a report/tghtadzerar. 

  2. Be able to plan, organize, and host a public event.

  3. Possess strong knowledge of the World Organization of the Scout Movement’s Charter and Bylaw.

  1. Civic

Research and study the following:

  • International civic movements and ideologies.

  • Major international political organizations.

  • National identity and civil belonging.

  1. Psychology

Research and study the following:

  • The psychological structure of human beings.

  • Basic human needs and instincts.

  • The qualities of a leader

  • Public relations and communication.

  • Conflict resolution between individuals or groups

  1. Religious

  1. Study and learn about the seven sacraments of the Armenian Apostolic Church:

  1. Baptism

  2. Confirmation

  3. Penance

  4. Eucharist

  5. Matrimony

  6. Holy Orders

  7. Anointing of the Sick

  1. Study and compare Christianity with other religions and Christian sects:

  • Islam

  • Judaism

  • Buddhism

  • Hinduism

  • Jehovah’s Witnesses

  1. Read and study the Constitution of the Armenian Church.
