Homenetmen’s Anthem
The official Homenetmen anthem is “Harach Nahadag,” the marching song of the Armenian Volunteer Corps (Hai Gamavoragan Kounterou kaylerk), written by Kevork Garvarents and composed by Parsegh Ganachian.
Karvarents was born in Turkey in 1882. As a teacher and educator, he taught at schools in several cities across Turkey. At the same time, he worked on essays, studies, poems, and literary prose, while also serving as an editor and intellectual.
In 1938, he moved to Greece, where he joined Homenetmen, becoming a strong believer in its vision and goals of the organization.
Karvarents is the author of four published poetry collections: “Dzover”, “Kerezmani Dzaghigner”, “Tavigh Yevolian”, and “Jaghadakris Jangeroun Mech”. He passed away in 1946.
Barsegh Kanachian was born in Rodosto in 1885. At a young age, he moved with his family first to Bulgaria and then to Romania, where he studied music and the piano. He was a student of Komitas Vartabed, who played a decisive role in enhancing his musical proficiency.
He spent some time in Paris to pursue higher musical education. He founded and conducted the Kousan Choir, which performed in various venues across Cyprus, Beirut, and other locations. He passed away in Beirut in 1967.
